Where to start
Hi there
Recently acquired a 1976 LS 5 door via EBay (wife bid on it for me as a surprise won for 800 bucks)
This is going to be a very interesting project as the car rocked up when delivered with the engine in the boot, and the gearbox in the footwell
Clearly it isn't worth messing about with trying to get the old diesel working again so im guessing a transplant is on the cards!
Happy Christmas all!

Hello and welcome,
I would think that an LS should not have a diesel, even if it is in the boot. If it is the original, the car should be a GLD. I am trying to remember whether a diesel came to Australia as early as '76. I had a '78 GLD years ago and it was quite good. Best fuel consumption I ever got was 60mpg. They might only be 37kw, but being a lightweight car and revving to 5500 they go surprisingly well. I found a 5 speed box for it that had the same ratios from 1 to 4 with 5 an overdrive. 5th gear was only good for over 80k and any sign of a hill coming up meant getting out of it. Still, it dropped the engine noise greatly on the highway.

Trying.....
I knew nothing about restoration when I started, and I am very very slowly learning. Enjoying the restoration more than I am fixing my mk4 that's for sure!
