Welcome to the forums Adam.
A 09 Tig should be an easy mod upgade path as it didn't start getting convoluted until the 2011 builds.
I believe a few vwvortex users did the golf coilover suspension upgrade but there are now tiguan exclusive coilover kits that weren't out at the time so you may want to look into those.
19" wheels look great but still give good enough sidewall.
You start losing options for tyres at that size though (I run 245/45/R19 Kumho KU31's.)
Keep us posted on how you go.

Welcome Adam!
Be interesting to see how you go modding your Tig.
As team_v says the earlier Tiguan didn't have the ECU locked down like some of the later ones do so you have a lot more options available as far as OBD port tuning. Best to decide whether you're going to go stage 2 first as some of the tuners will charge a reasonable amount for the update for the higher flow exhaust. If so just save up and get the down-pipe and tune at the same time and save some $ (i.e. don't pay for the tune twice).
I'm running 19x8 ET35 rims with 245/40R19 tyres - which is same size as Commodore so there's reasonable tyre choices as not too ridiculous prices. I did run the higher profile previously (245/45R19), however does gear up the car a little and it's a less common size.

Thanks mate, I have actaully read many of your posts haha
Ok ok, so there is not difference now? I would have though the strut lenghts would be longer in the tig making it not able to go low?
Note; when i say low im not after and airbag effect... just tucked/level with top of wheels and arches
