    VW Jetta Coolant Flush Plug

    Hi All,
Just picked up the Jetta and the previous owner has no idea if he used the red or green coolant and the fluid is below the minimum line so I can't see what color it is. I know you shouldn't mix the red or green coolant together that could cause issues, so any idea where the plug is so I can do a flush of the system?

Should I use the red or green coolant or does it not matter?

VW G11 coolant was used on <1996 build VWs and it is green-blue in colour. VW G12 coolant is red in colour and used on >1996 build. VW G12+ and G12++ coolant is pink in colour and used on >= 2000 build VWs. VW G13 coolant is purple in colour and used on >2008 build VWs.

As you are referring to the vehicle as a Jetta (not a Bora or a Vento) then I assume it is post 2005, so G12++ or G13 is your coolant.

G12, G12+, G12++ and G13 coolants can be mixed but never mix G11 with G12/G12+/G12++/G13 or you will get a brown sludge form in your coolant and your cooling system.

If you are not sure what coolant the previous owner has used, you can top up with water (preferably distilled) so you can see the colour of the coolant. If the colour does not look right then flush the system.

    Good luck.
