VW Golf R 7.5 wagon newbie

    Hey all,

Im moving across to VW from Audi. Keen to get back into a wagon!

Im a newbie here, and im about to pull the trigger on one of the below but Id appreciate your thoughts.
    Ive narrowed it down to:

2020 which has done 28000 km has a APR stage 2 tune, a custom exhaust system (brakes need to be done soon), full service history, second owner

    OR

2018 which has done 41000 km stock, clean title, full VW service history, original owner, 4 new tyres, brakes just done, 12 months reg

There is a 11k price difference between the cars. I was always going to do at least a stage 1.

Is there much difference between the MY18 and MY20? they are both the 7.5 if im not mistaken. I had read somewhere the water pump might be slightly better in the 2020, but i cant be sure of the source.

    cheers all

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Assuming the 2018 model is the one that is $11k cheaper?

Personally, assuming they are both in very good condition, I would definitely go for the 2018 model. Only 1 owner, full service history and still very low km's for a 2018 model. Then you can put some of the $11k you saved towards a stage 1 tune and even if you decide later to get an intake/downpipe/stage 2 etc you are still in front.

The 2020 model with several owners and modified just means a higher chance that its been thrashed a bit already.

As for water pumps - they are all garbage. Bank on having to replace one every 5yrs/50,000km.

28000 km and the brakes need doing, sounds like it has had some spirited drivers.
