Hi, I am new to this forum and have just bought my first VW'ish vehicle.
It is a second hand 2011 Skoda YETI and I am really pleased with it.
When I first rang the local dealership to update my maps (which are still the original 2011 maps), I was advised the DVD would cost $140. A bit expensive, but I was prepared to pay for it. I did some research and found the DVD is inserted and then automatically updates to the newer version.
I had some recall warranty stuff outstanding, so took the opportunity to get the update. They advised me when I picked up the car that as they couldn't get a stable internet connection the update failed. Then suggested I come back, but the cost would be about $400.
For a couple of hundred dollars i could buy an aftermarket sat nav with life time free updates, also it appears when you go to the VW web site some vehicles get free updates and some don't dependent on the vehicles VIN. Mine does not qualify, Why???? Very inconsistent.
I have a copy of the latest download (27 Gb), and have found with a maps tool you can download the SD card info to the HDD and then apply the upgrade.
Am I on the right track?
Is there a reliable site to get this maps tool from??
Sorry, a very long winded post for a first timer, and will try and keep future posts brief.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
