    Tiguan 2017 Transmission failure

    Hi Everyone
I found this site because I was looking for information about a transmission issue my 2017 Tiguan R-Line has. I bought the car late 2017 in Wollongong and loved it. I always felt the gear changing was a bit juvenile ( not smooth and very noticeable), but I had no reason to think it was a problem. Until now!
I had the water pump replaced last year as well as it was a ' known issue' too!
It wouldn't be so bad having these problems if VW had better customer service, but aggravating people seems to be the policy!
Having said that, the dealer advised that VW will cover the cost of the part ($2000) but not the labour ($526) as it is out of warranty.
I am curious to find out what others think of this offer given transmission failure is a ' known issue' in this model and given there is a major class action in the USA for the same issue in the 2022 model and I was advised to only drive the car if absolutely necessary, until the part comes in in about 3 weeks or so.
    Cheers
    Jo

Sounds fair and the US versions differ from ours as mainly only 7 seaters from Mexico there. What is the $2000 part called. Bet its mechatronics

Hi, I too have a late 2017 Tiguan purchased from Wollongong and are also now having gearbox trouble where it goes into limp mode. How did yours get resolved. Mine is out of warranty and I’m concerned that it will be an expensive fix

Have you had it diagnosed?. The Tiguan uses a reliable gearbox and not the bad DQ200 that had earlier problems. How many K's on the vehicle?

Its a shame the OP never bothered to come back and tell us what happened with his.
So many do a moan but never let us know how it was resolved.

Get it diagnosed and come back and give us the result 90% bet on mechatronics.

Also first I have heard of "known issues" in 2017/18 Tiguan gearboxes in Aussie

Damn Forgot about that one , but 99% is mechatronic which is the brain of the gearbox but not the actual box its self. Not much comfort to owners I guess. Out of Tig now. On an E Bike LOL
