They should have given you a 3 month stat warranty?
Gday, I just walked myself into a 2010 TS! with a dead piston :/
My first VW, a great looking car, but a very sad motor. Any ideas on a motor replacement and the value of sending good money after bad would be greatly appreciated!
I'm in Hobart, but bought the car in Melbourne at auction (lesson learnt!)

Very common issue with the 118TSI engine im afraid - most people find this out after they have bought the car rather than before due to a lack of research on the car before purchasing.
The 118TSI engine is the ugly duckling in the VW lineup of engines and has caught many many people out.
Basically you have 2 options:
- Rebuild the existing engine using aftermarket pistons (the factory VW pistons are a weak point). Most people are using Wossner pistons.
- Source an engine from a wrecker and have that installed. Bear in mind that this solution might be cheaper initially but the pistons in this 2nd hand engine will no doubt die one day too.
All the best.
If it was me i would get it fixed and get rid of it. Buy something Japanese or Korean if you want trouble free reliability, or if you definitely want VW then either get the 90TSI or jump up to the GTI which are a much more reliable engine.
