    Soon to be Passat owner

Hi Folks, lost my Subaru Levorg to theft and looking around it seems the only decent wagon alternatives come out of VAGs lineup. So im looking at a B8 Passat R-line wagon (my17 or 18 most likely) to replace it with. A lot of similarities to the Levorg, but finished off far more nicely. I loose a problematic CVT for what looks like a pretty solid DSG instead. Loose out on all time 4WD for more fuel efficient Haldex.

Looking forward to a change, Ive owned Subies for 15 years at this point!

Hi and welcome. A Passat R-Line is a worthy alternative to the Levorg - with a better engine + transmission, interior, paint quality etc etc. The Passat is definitely a class or two larger though, a Golf R wagon or Skoda Octavia vRS would be a more like-for-like alternative size-wise to the Subaru.

    Thanks Lucas!
The Golf is a fair bit smaller in paper, almost 400mm shorter than the Levorg vs the 60 or so millimeters bigger for the Passat. Width wise there's only 40mm between the three. The back seats spend a lot of time folded down and I think the reduced size of the golf would ultimately be more frustrating than the slightly bigger envelope of the Passat.

What I am interested to know is the upgrade path for the head unit in the MY17 cars. The particular car im looking at has this head unit in there, which I would at least like to update to the Discover Pro unit so I can get android Auto, any good reading for me to start on?

A Passat is 1900 floor length with the seats down and a Tiguan is only 1400 and the Golf is about the same Think they are all same width between the wheel arches at a bit over 900.

When the B8 Passat was launched in late 2015.
It was the first VW model released in the Australian market with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto...

The only advantage to upgrade is the look of a flat glass panel.
