    Polo GTI on credit card?

This sounds like a bit of stretch. Anyone able to push some of it on a cc? Interested in your stories.

    Thanks

Bought a 1970 Mini Cooper S on my credit card once but that was a long, long time ago.

If you're asking if a local dealer will take credit card to pay for a car, then yes. I did exactly that, with no surcharge, through Lennocks when I bought my Polo GTI.

If they charge a fee for using your card it may still be worthwhile depending on whether your card collects frequent flyer points etc.

Surely a personal loan or similar would have a far better rate than a credit card which normally are over 14% minimum.

Yes, but then I can get the amount for just 2% fee over 18 months at 0% (and that's after 55 days of 0% if I buy the car the beginning of the new cycle) by doing a balance transfer off a second card account. And can easily pay off most of it by then.

I use a Westpac MasterCard that earns Qantas points. Back then it was an Altitude card; these days it's called Earth but it's the same thing. You earn more points using the Amex card that comes with it - Lennock wouldn't accept the Amex but Mercedes Brisbane did.

I don't carry a balance on the card, so the interest rate is irrelevant.

Thanks. Just what I expected. Few years ago I tried to pay for a Getz at the Hyundai dealer for a friend, they refused to accept more than 40 percent in one go, had to go over 3 days to settle a 12k balance in 3 4k transactions (yes ridiculous). A mate's mate had a run in with the BMW dealer who said no to charging 80k to his AMEX, insisted no more than 20k, and the rest in cheque/deposit, they eventually accepted the remainder on a non-AMEX card.

I don't carry balances either, it's just 30k earns far more interest over 1.5 years than then 2% establishment fee, so net result for me is positive.

Recently bought a 1996 VW Vento GL on my credit card but the cost was a couple of zeros smaller than the transaction you are considering

I tried to pay for my car on cc, but the dealer was going to charge me the surcharge! It was cost prohibitive!
