Picked up my new Golf R

    Hello All,

Picked up my new Golf R two days ago so far very impressed.

Have found it a bit sluggish on take off, just have to get used to the DSG I guess.

Trying to upload a photo or two, not sure how that will go!!!

How long should I wait before I should get an APR chip??

Congratulations, Stuart. I'm sure you will work out the take off issue. Enjoy.

Hey Stuart - good to see a pic of the new car. The lag on take-off is likely a combination of the electronic throttle (which has a lag effect) and the DSG (which can feel a bit lazy getting off the line).

The good news is that the DSG will learn your driving style, so it should get better. You can also get little devices to 'speed up' the signal from the electronic throttle which work well.

So is this the car you drove a few weeks ago when i was with you?

    Hello Lucas,

Tried to post 3 photo's but Murphy's law only the worst one loaded!!!

Yes that is the car we test drove, it does roll along beautifully once I get going.

The DSG is much different than the PDK I was used to.

I have read the claims by APR and it sounds like that goes a long way to solving some of the lag??

I am not sure how long to wait before I chip the new car, I guess there are differing opinions, I will talk to Autowerks and see what they recommend.

There in no first service anymore, not due until 15,000km but I think I will do 7,500km oil and filter changes.

    Cheers

Up to you of course, but id leave it stock for a few thousand km's (3,000-5,000km) before fiddling with it. This wont take you long with your commute and should you have any issues, they should arise in this timeframe.

I tuned my R when it had about 1,000km on it and probably should have waited a little longer.

As i mentioned a few weeks ago, there are some turbo issues on these new R's which have resulted in some people experiencing blown turbos - sometimes this happens on a stock car but mostly after it has been tuned to stage 1. So fingers crossed your turbo will be ok.

Nice car love the blue, I went for the tune too, although I have the ABT 400hp tune, the reason was as Lucas said the turbos blow, ABT take over the warranty with their tune so I have piece of mind.
Enjoy that little beast of yours a bit before you do as it transforms the car into a weapon!

Thanks for the tip, how does your car drive with the 400hp tune, and what did that cost approx.??
