Any thing on Vagcom by the mechanic who services VAG's?? Any lights on on dashboard etc?
Also try and get factory extended warranty if you can before its too late.
Also elaborate on the shudder, could be a mechatronics issue?
Hi - I have a 2012 Alltrack 125TDI with 60K.
Coolant leak recently repaired under warranty by VW thankfully.
While in traffic at @ 70kmh it suddenly shuddered resulting in engine shutting down, rolling to a stop in peak hour!
Engine refused to restart, shuddering while trying in vain, suggesting some mechanical failure. Got it towed to local mechanic who service VWs but suspect it may need a return to factory service centre.
NB I bought it 2nd hand with 50K in Dec 2015 after reading up on diesel v petrol DSG. Apart from coolant leak it has been fine apart from usual DSG shudder in traffic. Shudder most noticeable reversing up my steepish driveway.
Any thoughts on potential issue and whether this is a known problem would be appreciated. Back to VW?

Thanks - no diagnosis yet. Dash lit up all warning lights as I tried to restart. Engine shuddered as it cranked suggesting a mechanical issue, shuddering both heard and felt in cabin. Airbag error/warning message was displayed, analogue clock spun. NB timing belt was replaced when coolant pump replaced less than 1000km / 3 weeks ago.
Could be a faulty injector if one is no good won't let the engine start
