Hello Everyone
Since placing an order for an Octavia RS 162kw DSG Wagon in late May 2014 I have been following the posts regarding the Octavia RS. I have finally found some time to introduce myself.
Let me begin by saying we expect to be in for a long wait for our car. When we signed the order on 31/5/14 we were advised by the Sales Manager at Barbagallo Skoda Osborne Park that expected delivery would be sometime between August and October. I took this to mean we were likely going to see the car in October.
While the Sales Manager was away for four weeks, my wife and I were still debating our choice of colour. I wanted Candy White while the wife had her heart on Black Magic Pearl. After returning to the dealership in July to again look at the colours, I was advised by the Sales Manager that the vehicle would now not be delivered until early 2015. At this time I requested that the vehicle be manufactured in early 2015, as I didn't want to take delivery in 2015 of a vehicle manufactured in 2014.
I also at this time agreed to change the colour to Black Magic Pearl. The dealership had an RS Wagon in that colour and it did look very nice; small things like the greater contrast of the reflective Red stripes on the back and coloured brake calipers and the fact the shark fin aerial is black helped sway the decision. Ultimately I just decided not to be conservative, irrespective of whether Black is practical or not. I expect the climate controlled air-conditioning will just have to work a bitter harder. Hopefully the panoramic sun-roof will help cool the car if it has been sitting in the sun for a while. We have also ordered the Black Turini wheels, so it should look rather nice.
My wife and I looked at a few vehicles before deciding on the Octavia RS Wagon. The Mazda 6 was quickly dismissed, the wife didn't like the seats or the general appearance of the vehicle. I was keen on a Golf GTI, however, the lack of space for rear seat passengers was the deal breaker for me and the wife wasn't impressed with the interior and didn't think it warranted the extra expense over the Octavia.
After two test drives we were satisfied the Octavia RS Wagon was the next car for us. It offered exactly what we wanted, a dual clutch gearbox which was a deal breaker for us, as the wife has an auto only license, and I was keen to have an active cruise control on our next car. I must say I am going to miss a manual gearbox, I love driving my current 6 spd Accord Euro, but having driven a DSG Golf for two weeks in Tasmania I think the dual clutch option offers the best compromise.
The wife was very keen on the Panoramic sun-roof and the chrome window surrounds and roof rails so we have ordered both those options, along with the Tech Pack so I can have my desired active cruise control and the upgraded Canton stereo which sounds much better than the standard stereo. We have also gone for the Auto Boot, internal alarm sensor and the extended warranty.
Now we just have to wait for delivery, we have our hearts set on April 2015. The Sales Manager has said she will place the order in November; at least now we will be able to get the reversing camera with the Tech Pack, which wasn't the case if we wanted the car delivered in 2014. In the meantime I have done a vehicle configuration on the Skoda website and saved the image as my computer desktop wallpaper. I have also downloaded the Octavia owners manual and the manual for the Columbus Infotainment system to help me with the wait.
