    Talking Our First VW

    Hi All!

    SA Based Newbie.

So we have recently gotten a VW (second hand) 2008 JETTA TDi.

It's my son's first car but I've driven it a fair amount I must say that in many ways I'm really impressed. 240K on the clock, 1.9 TDi, Manual, it's mostly in good condition for the age. It drives nice (better than I expected actually) and I'm hoping we still have a few k's of life in it (its been regularly serviced, had belts done a while back but nothing more than that). In some aspects I actually enjoy driving it as I do my N I own. I'm impressed with the build quality and I have to say, there are some great redundancy features in the car... which blew me away - I now understand what people mean by German Engineering. I'm used to driving Alfas and Peugeot's, so this is definitely the other side of Europe now lol.

Its got a couple of issues (I'll save the questions for my next post - hope you can at least direct me to which forum to post to as I couldn't see something specific for older Jetta's). Other than that, look forward to being a part of this community - which I stumbled on from searching for help.

    Hello to all!

Hi and welcome. Those 1.9TDi's can run forever if you keep the basic maintenance up on them. This model car is known as a Mk5 (5th generation Golf). And the Jetta is essentially a Golf sedan.

Here is the correct Golf/Jetta forum: https://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f15/
