One of the many mk6 TSI owners with 'the problem'

Hi,
Grown up with VW in family – only to become an owner and have a piston crack and VW not care. Enoyed the ride up until that point. Looking for assistance to save my pocket from imploding.

Hey, sorry to hear it. Many of us have been through the same thing, including myself.

If you want the cheapest fix you're looking for a 2012 low km CAVD engine block or as close to that as you can get. I paid about $2000 a while back and then ~$1500 to get it installed. I still have my Golf twincharger and love it.

I posted this yesterday. Not sure of the age or condition of the block but it may be worth reaching out to the seller. If the engine is new it's a bargain.

Alternatively you can buy aftermarket forged pistons to rebuild the engine. that's probably more like $5,000+ but a more permanent solution.

There's a ton of info in the forum about peoples experiences and solutions available. It can take some time but you'll learn plenty from our collective misery

The DSG 7sp had a whole bunch of issues too so many people with the DSG and engine problems just cut their losses and sell after a wrecker engine replacement.

I've been quoted $7500 (pistons and labour) third party service centre. VW were less than helpful and will only tell me more cost details once I spend another $1000 with them. Sounds like gambling to me...
Spoke at length with VW Australia – and they mentioned cracked piston even though I never brought it up. They know...

DSG gearbox was replaced as part of recall. Why TSI wasn't recalled is beyond me.
At this stage trying to get car back on road so we can drive and/or trade-in/sell.

Hi - just wondering if your problem is the same as mine - my automatic golf tsi118 (2012) just stopped in traffic yesterday - engine still running/no weird sounds/ no connection between accelerator and gearbox it seems..just won't move in any gear - kept flashing with spanner icon - had to get it towed..as a woman who has only ever driven a manual i found the automatic engine design looked more like a space ship.... anyone with any advise please before I contact local VW

Im new to this forum after a few major vw issues. Your car problem sounded like the mechatronics unit?Was this the case? What happened? Did u get it repaired, replaced?
