Welcome buddy!
Seriously shortage of rally mk1s in Australia, so very keen to see what you come up with.
The Pierburg mk1 is perfection in my eyes, and a great source of inspiration.
Good luck with it all
So had a few little Dubs, both air and water over the years.
Started with the VW Kombi tour of Europe in the early 90's.
Then a few more followed:
99 Passat V6 in 1999.
2010 VW Polo GTI in 2010
and now the VW 4motion Transporter and just got hold of a Golf Mk1 for a few club race events.
Trying to collect 'famous' (and obscure) rally cars from each decade as 'replicas' in a loose interpretation of replica!
So Far
1960's - Orange Mini 1275cc road car / rally replica fairly Standard (UK)
1970's - VW Golf Mk 1 - Pierburg Replica - not started yet. I have the base car. (Germany)
1980's - No car found yet - thinking Alfa GTV or Lancia (Italy) or Volvo 242 (Swedish) ??? remember its all lower budget stuff under $10k
1990s - Peugeot 306 Kit Car (france)
2000s - Renault Megane Sport (france)
So Ok 2 French cars, but both of them are so very quick.
Any way the next project is the Pierburg replica in blue and yellow.

77 Mk1 GLS 2 door - That sinking feeling
76 Mk1 Swallowtail 2 door - Replace that BMW & 76 Sweetheart
Is this the shell you got off Mick in Canberra?
Swap the Peugeot for a Seat Ibiza and you'll have a Spanish representation as well.
And post lots of pictures as you build the Golf.
Cheers
Paul
