Newbie from Sydney Hunting for an R36

    Hi all,

My name is Paul and I've been lurking here for a while.

I'm hunting for a Passat R36 wagon - preferably MY10 in Biscay Blue with a sunroof and other options. Oh, and less than 80,000km.

Sounds easy, but I got gazumped last week with an R36 wagon that ticked all the boxes - but I missed out - it was on Carsales for less than a day..!

    The search continues...

You may need to compromise on some options. I did and don't regret it. Otherwise you'll be waiting for ever...

That car was priced very well and had some killer options. I called up and he said there were 3 other ppl before me that day. Did you manage to see the car at all? I've found that late model, low km, good optioned wagons go fast!

That car went on the market on Monday night and I called him on Tuesday at 9:30am, but I was the second caller. He was bringing it in to town for the first caller that day at 4pm. I also work in the city, so I was able to see it at 3pm.

The R36 presented very well, though I thought the ride was a bit harsh and noisy. He did label it incorrectly - it was 2009 build, "owned" by the MD of Chatswood Classic Cars, where he bought it as a demo. That is why it was loaded!

I asked about the DCC and he said he never used it! The car recently had new brakes - he showed me an invoice for $2K!

I made him a fair offer, but he said he needed to show it to the first caller at 4pm and he said he would get back to me. That night I saw it had been removed from Carsales, and next morning I got a text to say that the first caller had bought it! I was gutted....

Oh man I'm really sorry to hear that. At least he could've let you known the situation before it was sold.

The ride is firm but shouldn't be noisy. I haven't noticed any noise from my wagon.

The vendor Dennis was fair. he said he would contact me after the first caller had seen it. When I didn't hear I texted him and he said he would get in touch with me the next day. I guess if the sale fell through, I was next in line. I think he was surprised that there was so much interest, but he priced the car well and it was loaded with options even Bluetooth - the only things it was missing was Dynaudio and surprisingly the RVC, which when Dennis purchased the car, the dealer stated that it had an RVC!

Hi Paul, congratulations on your purchase - I think you've done well!

I figured that they sold 1,740 R36s in Australia with 2/3s being wagons and Biscay Blue being the most popular colour out there - it shouldn't be too hard. But I understand the MY10/10.5 are the best, it has to have a sunroof and I want less than 80K, because I intend to keep it for a while.

There is one currently for sale in Adelaide. I was the first caller and have the inside running on what looks like a nice car. ACC and DCC would be nice, but not essential. Bluetooth is essential, at least for my wife.....
