    Newbie - NSW Region

    Hey guys,

Long time lurker first time poster!

Currently Mrs has a 6R GTI and about to pick up a 162TSI Tiguan on the weekend to replace it with.

Keen to read up on IS38 installs and what can be done to make the family car a bit more fun to be in!

    Cheers

    Andy.

Hi and welcome. Im from Newcastle so not too far from you. How has the 6R GTI treated you, because they have a woeful reliability track record? Hopefully you havent had too many issues with it.

The engine and transmission in the Tiguan 162TSI is MUCH more robust and reliable than the Polo. Although there have been instances of gearbox failures in the Tiguan and this is from the oil level being underfilled from the factory. So unless you know for sure that the gearbox has been serviced already, it might be worth having the oil level checked at a minimum, or replaced to make sure yours is ok.

As an alternative to the traditional IS38 turbo upgrade, there is also a Garrett Powermax turbo which is basically an IS38 competitor. I have a brand new one I am selling currently if you might be interested.

    Hi Lucas,

Apologies for the very delayed response mate I literally have only just seen the message this evening after logging back in.

Did you manage to sell your turbo? If not I could potentially be interested.

I picked up a 162 Tiguan last week and very impressed with the car so far.
