    Newbie in Melbourne

    Hi All
John from Melbourne, recently purchased a 2024 Tiguan R and pretty sure the R stands for ridiculous, but in all the right ways, it's just a whole lot of fun to drive.
Grew up on Datsun 1600s (I hope that's not considered foul language and don't know if I should admit I still have one with an fj20) and this is my first VW, if you don't count a Kombi my wife and I bought (and sold) in London to drive around Europe 25yrs ago, although it was air cooled.
Found the forum looking info on space saver options as I do a bit of country driving.

Have done the exercise on Space savers and found that the 20in on my Rline wouldnt go right down in the wheel well and made the boot floor sit up 60mm. The only way was to either use a 20 but much narrower rim and tyre like a 205 45 instead of a 255 or an 18 in rim with a 225 45 or similar on it. Neither was really suitable and in the end I never had a puncture in 4 years so didnt matter. R stands for rorted your wallet..

Hi and welcome. I had a black Tiguan R drive past me yesterday and geez they do look nice. Id love one myself to replace my 9 year old Audi SQ5 but cant afford one. In saying that, the SQ5 is immaculate and only has 100,000km on it so its got plenty of life still in it.

And nothing to be ashamed of with a Datsun 1600 with the legendary FJ20 in it. I had a mate years ago who had the same car and engine but it was the turbo version of the FJ20. It was a hoot to drive around in. Got me interested in Nissans and I had a couple of 200sx's after that.
