Hi everyone,

I'm Kody, I'm 19 from Brisbane, and I like long walks on the beach, scotch and beer.
My previous cars include a 2004 Subaru Liberty and 2006 WRX Club Spec 9, both with minor modifications.

I'm currently in the market for my first VW, a Golf R, Mark 6, DSG.
I can see that the introductions page isn't very active, so I may have to post my questions in the Mark 6 forum eventually but I hope someone may see this and answer a few questions for me!

In the next few months I will be looking for a Mark 6 Golf R with a budget of about 35k. So far, the two options I want most are leather seats and the RNS510 (I think??) nav system with reverse camera. That being said, recaros and a sunroof would be awesome but I doubt I can find that spec'd R in my price range.

The first of my questions is, which options are ideal? I have heard that a lot recommend ACC if the car has the 19" rims. Is this something I should be looking for in an R?

Also, I am looking for a car with 45k-70k km. Does anyone here have a Golf with reasonably high mileage? Will I get a decent life span from the car if I get something with 70k km?

Now the common question - what are the common issues I should look out for?
I've done my research, I am aware the DSG control units do have a history of failure. Was there a span of model years that this occurred, or is it just luck of the draw? This seems to be the main major issue I have found, apart from that they seem to be quite reliable cars?

Regarding servicing, I see they have a 15k km oil interval, and 60k km DSG service interval. I have always over serviced my cars. Will there be any potential issues with me performing a 7.5k oil and filter change, and perhaps 30k DSG service myself? I did all servicing on my Subarus (trust issues with mechanics) and on my daily driver, however I am considering getting the 15k service intervals done through a mechanic as I feel that VW owners would be hesitant to buy a self-serviced car if I sell it. Stamps look much nicer in a book than receipts and small novels about the work performed!

Finally, what are the 'must do' mods for an R? I see a lot of great little tricks that can be done in VAG Com and plan on purchasing a cable and software. I also would like to eventually get the car to Stage 2. I'm looking for neat little mods, like the under seat storage drawers etc. I've been trawling build threads for inspiration, so if anyone can recommend some good build threads please let me know.
