Hi from me,currently a MK6 118tsi VW golf owner. Located in Perth, WA. Want to contribute the forum about engine problems as I am yet another one who has fallen victim to this.
I am hoping to gain some insight into other people's experiences with this, as well as contributing to bringing the problem to light and having VW take some accountability for it.
Firstly welcome to the forum and I wish you all the best with getting your engine fixed. Unfortunately there are many stories of similar issues with this particular motor and not all with happy endings.
In more recent times VW has been taking a tougher stance on payment for goodwill repairs (outside warranty). Be ready to stump up a decent amount of cash at a dealer to get the assessment done and be ready for the goodwill claim to be denied (this is just VW's first offer so no need to accept it).
However having said that you will need to have a good case for a warranty repair on a 7 year old car. Service history would have to be impeccable - every 12 months at a minimum (or 15,000 if the car has been driven higher km). Ideally it would be serviced at a dealership so VW couldn't claim corners were cut in servicing, though technically this is not necessary. If you are the first owner and have bought new you may have a slightly better chance. This shouldn't matter but VW is concerned about protecting new car sales/buyers and doesn't really care about resale/second hand market.
Have a read of the Golf 118 TSI Engine Failures and Service Campaign 24S4 thread. If you do decide to go down the dealer/warranty path for repairs then expect a long dragged out affair with your car off the road for several months.
Good luck!!!!
