Hi all
Have a 2.0 Golf TDI, love the car hence still have it at 165000 kms Starting to give a little bit of issues hence here to consult fellow Gurus and hopefully contribute where I can.
Hi and welcome. The trusty TDI should only just be run-in with 165,000km, whats going on with it?
Warning light of coolant came on and upon close monitoring it was leaking.
Sent the car to VW for diagnosis and they came up with following with a quote of $1800, so i am not sure what to do further
"Front Coolant pipe requires replacement as first step + oring. to remove and replace this hose a lot of other hoses need to be removed to gain access - due to the age suspect other hoses to require replacement as well - will require replacement of front coolant pipe as first step to be able to pressure test the cooling system and check again Part is a special order in and next available date to start repairs"
Is there any mention of part numbers on your quote? Im wondering if this is the part they are referring to: 1K0121070CF - Pipe - Genuine Volkswagen– VAGPARTS Australia
You can Google the part number 1K0121070CF to find images of what that part looks like.
Unfortunately in all modern cars, many parts are made out of plastic which get brittle with the engine heat cycles and eventually crack or start to leak. So if they have to move a bunch of pipes in order to access the worn out pipe, then its quite possible that some/all of those pipes will need to be replaced.
Other options are to use an independent VW specialist mechanic who will be cheaper than VW, such as:
- Eurowerke in Castle Hill
- Hills Eurohaus in Castle Hill
- BWA Auto in Seven Hills
