    Newbie first post

Hey there, I'm interested in mods for Passat Alltrack MY23 B8. Mostly stage 1 type mods, if anyone has done these etc.

I am looking to get a few more beans out of the engine, without overwhelming the DSG gearbox. I am happy to keep the ride height, as I drive on some crappy dirt roads as well as highway.

    Cheers,
    Ed

Hi and welcome. You haven't mentioned if you car is petrol or diesel, but in either case a basic "stage 1" tune will give you a noticeable increase in both power and torque without overwhelming the engine or the transmission etc.

If your car is a MY23 model then you only really have your warranty to consider (as a tune will void your engine and driveline warranty) and also as the car is so new, the tuning companies may or may not have a tune for it yet.

What area in Sydney are you located?

    Hi Lucas,

Thanks for your reply. It's a petrol EA888 motor with a standard 162kW 350Nm. I'm in southern Sydney.

Other than a Stage 1 ECU tune, would you add any hardware upgrades?

    Thanks

Ok so its the same engine as the Mk7 Golf GTI I recently sold. A stage 1 tune wakes the engine up nicely and will raise power to approx 200kw and 430nm or so. Makes the car effortlessly go up hills and gives much better acceleration/overtaking power.

No hardware is required for a stage 1 tune, but you could upgrade the intake if you like some induction sound (if not, probably remove the snow grate inside the airbox and fit a high flow replacement air filter).

If your budget allows, I would recommend getting your DSG transmission tuned also. This changes various things such as clutch clamping pressure, shift times - but more importantly in my experience it raises the RPM at which the DSG changes gears. With the VW software the DSG changes gears at about 1,800rpm and the engine always feels like it labouring and the RPM is too low to have any torque. With a software change on the DSG they raise the shift points (in my case it was raised to about 2,300rpm which might not sound like a lot but it made a noticeable difference when driving).

    Hi Lucus,
Thanks, that's very helpful. I was considering the DSG tune as well, but you have answered that for me. It's an Alltrack, so a Stage 1 seems to make the most sense. I would do an intake too. I like some good sounds to come through to the cabin.

    Appreciated.
