Newbie with 2018 Golf GTI Original

Hey all,

Just introducing myself.

My name is Jake, I live in Sydney and my partner Jordan and I are the proud owners of a new Candy White 2018 Golf GTI Original manual that we picked up last week. I traded an Atlantic Blue MY17 Golf 110TSI Comfortline DSG in on it and am not regretting it for a second.

Bought at Bill Buckle VW in Brookvale NSW for $33,490 drive away (what a price!!! They supposedly bought all the remaining GTI Originals in the country), the GTI Original we bought was part of the second batch built for Australia. The DSG in my Comfortline turned me off autos as long as I'm able to, so manual it is!

Aside from it being our family car for the next five or so years, we don't have too much planned with the Original. I can't wait to activate little features like the Scandinavian daytime running lights and the dials sweep to seperate it from others out there, but we plan on keeping it mostly stock for the time being.

It's only got 220km on it so far, but here are a few questions I have so far:

1) The run-in period. It's about to go on a 900 or so km trip up the coast this weekend and wondered how this will affect the run in period. All the owners manual says is to avoid full throttle driving for the first 1,500km, but my ND MX-5 run-in period was much more complicated avoiding spending too much time at the same revs and so on. Does anybody have any tips on how to effectively run a GTI in?
2) The wheels. We both aren't a fan of the GTI Original's black 18-inch alloys, would anybody like to swap their Mk7.5 GTI wheels for these/is anybody selling theirs? We think that they look way better than the Original's.
3) Electric-folding mirrors. This is a pet peeve of mine as I think that all cars should have this as standard. Has anybody done this mod - how much did it cost, and how easy is it to do? I'm not handy nontechnical at all, and wondered if paying somebody to do it would be easier?
4) We didn't get any paint protection from the dealer, which products do people recommend? I am considering getting some film protection for the front bumper + definitely the door handle cups. Can anybody help with this?
5) How do I upload pics from my computer to this post?

Other than that, it's perfect and we're both so happy for what's to come with the car.

Sounds like a good pickup and a great price, I am also looking to get of these before they disappear, but tossing up between the GTI Original ( bear in mind I already have a 2016 PP ) and a good low K 2nd hand BMW 420i Coupe...similiar price. Yes they are different but maybe time to move from the 2 Golf garage (the other one is a Mk6 Comfortline). All thoughts/opinions welcomed.
