Welcome.
Sounds like you have bought yourself a TDI and have got some issues. If you have the DPF and limp mode issues then you probably have interrupted a DPF regeneration process too many times (eg short drives or running the car with low fuel in the tank) which ends up putting the vehicle into limp mode.
Without a doubt the best money you could spend would be to get 2x things:
1) Carista OBD module and app ($46 from AutoInstruct)
2) VAGDPF app from Google Play store ($5)
The Carista OBD module connects into the cars diagnostic port under the dash and uses Bluetooth to connect to the app. In addition to being able to read and clear error codes, make coding changes etc, you can use Carista to force a DPF regeneration. A very handy and low cost tool which pays for itself in no time.
And with the VAGDPF app, you can keep an eye on how full the DPF is and when a regeneration is taking place, so you can avoid getting DPF related issues in the future.
Also a DPF regeneration will not take place if:
- oil temp is under 80 degrees
- fuel level is below 1/4 tank
- there are any engine related fault codes/lights
