I've been a registered and until recently paid up member, but I'm getting the "YOU MUST INTRODUCE YOURSELF" banner.
Hi everyone!
I've got a mothballed 1979 Mexico Beige 4dr Mk1 Golf, on carbs. Put a bit of work into it (bracing, coilovers, new carpet and god knows what else) but that was before my better half got pregnant a bit over 3 years ago.
The battery has since died, but I did give it some fresh fuel and got it fired up and running as smoothly as ever. if memory serves, it had somewhere in the ~80kW ATW range (at last tune).
Still very much in two minds. If a club permit was easy enough to obtain, or if Vic wasn't such a nanny state, I'd have already done a 20v 1.8t conversion. As it stands, I'm tempted to roll as much of it back to stock and clean up the body instead, and merely preserve the car.

There's a few already running the turbo engine in Melbourne. Why not piggyback off their work to get their cars registered.
Or you could go 2 litre on carbs without telling anyone. Doesn't take much work to make a quick car.
Post some pix in the MK1 section, always good to see another one.
Cheers and welcome as a (not really) new user.
