Post New member post - my first VW is a Tiguan 162TSI Highline

I'm in Brisbane QLD and will pick up my new Tiguan 162TSI vehicle on Wednesday. It has taken 7 months for delivery, but that story is for a later post.

I have previously owned a Subaru Liberty for 9 years and for the last 4 years a Subaru XV. So why have I gone VW you may ask?

I have always loved the AWD sure footed "4 feet on the ground" type vehicle. The Liberty was great and the XV was a real let down with its CVT. Basically the XV 2.0i-S was gutless and un-spirited to drive and slow to respond at take-off. And its load space too small for our needs. It was OK as a city and shopping commuter, but not big enough or powerful enough as a holiday tourer or carrying more than 4 full Coles bags in the boot.

I was lucky enough to have a SEAT SC FR hire car for 2 weeks in Ireland in 2015. Wow what a vehicle! It was built on the Golf GTI base. I loved driving it. My mind was made up. This was driving and it was enjoyable again. The SEAT could take off like a kangaroo, steered and cruised like a dolphin in water and gripped the road like glue. I wanted a vehicle like this.

So when it was time to rid myself of the slumbering XV I saw that VW had released the new Tiguan that was sort-of based on a Golf GTI. I test drove a 162TSI with driver assist etc and it was fabulous. I then drove the new 2017 CX5 Akera. There was no comparison. VW Tiguan won hands down with superior driver and display technology, driving spirit and load capacity.

So I placed the order for the 162TSI highline with driver assist (not R Line) on 12 July 2017 and the dealer rang this morning, 19 February 2018, to say "come and get it on Wednesday!" Oh joy. It's actually here at last!

In the next post I will tell you about the past 7 months of the long wait for its build and then how I followed its journey to Australia.

Welcome to the VW world. My VW arrived prematurely at 4 months. Came totally unexpected as I was not tracking the progress.
Enjoy it and have plenty of adventure together.

Congrats! I much preferred the Tiggy over the Mazda too when I was on the new car hunt but I ended up going for the Alltrack instead.
