New here and thinking of buying the Golf R

    Hi All

Currently weighing up the Golf R 7 vs WRX STI premium. Current driver is Megane RS 250 (last 3 years). Have test driven both and they both provide a very different experience. Do I want the hard core, mechanical, boy racer type of drive that the STI provides, or do I want the more sophisticated, but still super fast, Golf. Decisions, decisions....

Having dabbles in skylines and wrx in the past and just brought a GTI I'm kicking myself why I didnt do it earlier. The level of refinement and as you said sophistication is far greater than wrxs. The R in my view has the complete package and with a few tune mods will certainly provide all the power you need in comparison to your other options.
But WRX is a great car, each to their own!!

bu you already know you will get a slightly biased view on this website😜

To be honest, I'd keep the Renault Sport unless you really want/need AWD and or not keen to keep it beyond the warranty period.

But you're adamant about upgrading, I'd go the 'softer' Golf R- much better all round car.

Then again if I was in my late teens/early twenties I'd prob choose the STI.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to have a look at another R today, blue one that is a demo. I'm early 40s now, owned wrx's and integra type R's when I was a bit younger. I think the only thing holding me back from a final decision on the golf is that it looks really similar to a standard, run of the mill golf. Has anyone had any success making changes to the overall look of their cars?
