G'day guys,
For those who haven't met me, I'm a recent owner of an Audi A3 8P 2.0T.
I know it may be an odd place for an Audi owner to introduce himself here but i did seriously consider the GTI before purchasing the A3.
A bit of background. I was in the buyers market for a few months after the new year and test drove a fair few mk5 GTI's. I found that most previous owners were asking for way too much at the time and that the general condition of most GTIs was very poor. Basically, i had trouble finding anyone who had a well kept GTI in terms of service and condition and with low kms. Was i asking for too much at the time? Well i had a bit of a revelation and remembered that the A3 has the exact same engine/transmission as the GTI, which brings me here. I found a low km, fully serviced and optioned A3 for a price (that i negotiated) i couldn't refuse. There were not as many A3s to choose from, but most of them were in a better position to bargain with.
A bonus for me was that the previous owner had the car GIAC tuned a few months before he sold it which saved me more money. So far I've replaced the CAI with a VF engineering kit and (sadly) after the dyno day replaced my Diverter Valve due to zero boost issues. I just replaced the leds on the license plate and i am waiting for new tail-lights to come in from Germany. Im looking at a full exhaust, lowering, tint and rims as potential mods as funds permit down the track.
I mostly hang out on OzAudi but can see that the community here, after meeting a few from the last weekend, are definitely in tune with their engines and much more helpful.
Ive got a build thread here Dekays A3 2.0T Build Thread for those interested.
Cheers

given we have Audi, skoda, and SEAT sub sections I dont see the issue. watercooled and ozaudi are two very different communities so I think there is a place for both..
Welcome aboard btw DeKay
Cheers Tim.
Yeah thats it, i know it may be a different car but we share the same 2.0TFSI and DSG. When it comes to performance modifications Ive found the GTI forums are a far better source of information than OzAudi.. OzAudi are good for other things, but there arnt as many people with the same make car or tech docs on how to DIY. I'm a member of various forums and open to all, i don't see one forum as the be all end all of information.
welcome mate
Audi people are definatly welcome here![]()
