    mk6 GTI or Mk6 R

    Hi Guys,

New to the European scene. Just an opinion on, 20k budget, either mk6 GTI or Mk6 R? Thanks for the help.

I don't think you will find a Mk6 R for $20k and if you do it will have a ton of km's on it. If $20k is your budget, then you should be able to find a nice example of a MK6 GTI with around 80,000km on it. If you can, try to find a MY12 model or newer (although this may be hard on a $20k budget) as these had the updated timing chain tensioner and chain which is a bit of a problem in the earlier models.

Having owned both a Mk6 GTi and Mk6 R, id say the GTI is more fun to drive on a day to day basis and throw around corners when you want to have some fun. The Mk6 R feels heavy in comparison and although it has better traction, it understeers more and the general driving experience is dulled a little due to the extra weight.
