Service history, brakes, 4 tyres of a reputable make, a black oil filter ( a sign that it's been serviced by the right people) and LCA rear bushes. The interior handles will no doubt be tired and check the windows work.

Lower control arm. you can early in this video what happens with blown out ones. Replace with the R32/TT/S3 ones he recommends.

Reliable yes. Check for brand name tyres is what h1000vw is saying, e.g: not cheap junk just to pass roadworthy. Get it independantly inspected. If it has a full service history from a reputable mechanic it should be OK. When operating windows I'd ensure they don't make much of a 'groany' type noise.

    Welcome Zaki!
I love my MK4 and haven't had a problem with it for the 8 months ive had it.
The car you seem interested in sounds good! As you're also from Radelaide, Go on facebook and join a group called "Euro SA". The owner of this GTI is in the group and you may be able to have a better insight of the car on there. plus everyone one there (including me) will be able to help you out aswel
    Goodluck with the search!

If there's money owing on the car, you need to find out the payout amount and if it's less than what you're paying for the car get a bank cheque made out to the finance company and do the hand-over at the finance company office. YOu take the cheque in with the current owner, pay out the loan, sign the paperwork and give him any additional $ that you agree on.

If the payout on the loan is more than what you're paying for the car he will have to tip in that amount when you pay out the loan so that the finance company releases the interest in the car. Make sure you get a $0 balance .

Suggest also getting a REVS check on the car. Highly recommended if you're buying privately (with a dealer you have legal come-back). Consider it cheap insurance on the deal.
