    Interesting Journey

    Hi All,

The journey started back in Nov-09 when invited to the Australian launch of the MkVI Golf GTI at Calder Park Raceway. At the time I was a happy and content owner of a two year old VE Calais 6.0ltr V8. After half day spent thrashing the living daylights out of the Golf GTI's around Calder, it opened my eyes to all the fun I was missing out. Needless to say, by March 2010 I was a proud owner of a MkVI Golf GTI in Tornado Red and Detroit 18" alloys. The Calais was soon forgotten.

The wife got in on the act in 2013 with a MkVII 103 TSI Highline.

March this year seemed like a good time to upgrade from MkVI GTI to MkVII GTI Performance. Having picked up my new ride late May 2015 I couldn't be prouder. Brilliant, unbelievable vehicle.

Two months later and 2000kms of GTI Performance ownership I did something silly, I drove a Golf R.

Sometimes you can't deny the heart, and at great financial cost, last Friday (31/07/2015) I placed an order for a MY16 Golf R at the expense of my two month old GTI Performance.......I can't wait.

Having read VWWatercooled for years, I thought it was time to become part of it.

    Thanks for listening.

    You fool.

You should go back to basics and get a MK1 Golf. In the end it will probably cost you as much as the R once you've replaced everything but you'll never want to upgrade again.

    Cheers

Im about to place an order for MY16 GTi pp. How did you find the pp and what sort of trade did you get on the R?

Sparkyboy69, what can I say, it was ugly. Even so it was something I needed to do.

What was important to me was the change-over figure, but on the paperwork the GTI PP was $43K.
