Hello everyone and thank you for letting me (us) be part of this forum of VW enthusiasts.
I bought my brand new white POLO 1.2 BMT TREND 66 M5F (as per VIN data) back in April, 2016.
Manual gearbox and a full delight since day one. Or even before that, during a test drive.
First customizations were about replacing Amps hungry incandescent globes by thirsty LEDs.
It was inside, with all globes for courtesy lights.
It was outside, with reverse and stop (rear) and turning, position/parking (rear and front). No CAN issues.
Also replaced the front halogen low/high globes and also the driving lights. These were the hardest. Driving lights sockets were very hard to reach (although now I know I can reach from the underneath, removing the engine bottom cover). And also installing high power LEDs with fans, drivers and everything else inside the front light was tedious.
Reason for LEDs was aiming at reduced heat generation and lower power consumption but primarily it was brightness and fastest to lit.
No changes to the rego/plates lights. Nor "fog" (halogen) light.
Later on I installed a dashcam that connects straight from the fuse box with one of those piggyback bladefuse-like connectors.
And whilst I was getting 12VDC from the fuse box I made a simple cable diversion to install a very bright LED on the top of the central compartment. With its own switch ... finally I can find my black USB cable inside that dark cave ...
Latest addition was a low cost OBD-II HUD device to display mostly coolant temperature (no gauge whatsoever standard) with the options for voltage and true real speed as well. Smartly () installed so the display is against an acrylic on the dashboard, not the windscreen.
In my wouldn't-be-nice list is to get some mods to increase the 66kw of power to more. But I'm a little skeptical and for one person only and city driving a thirsty 66kw is more than enough. Trust me. The real bother is a gazillion red lights and slow 4X4 wandering along.
Fuel consumption is just unbelievable!
Driving nicely and gently I got 4L/100km (some road works so had a cruisy, non stop 80Kmh for quite a long distance).
Maniac driving ignoring all common sense and I get (please notice verb in present time...) 6.4L/100km purely and entirely on city driving, multiple short trips.
Using Shell Unleaded 98 (because of Shell fuel card).
I always wanted to know more and more about my VW Polo. All the little secrets and improvements. Through good old Google I learnt of this forum, right here in Australia. Cannot get any better than this!
And this will be all.
Adiós.
