Angry Hi I am new here and my Golf's just broke down after service !

    Hi all,

It's a bad way of introducing myself but just too many bad news recently. I am from Melbourne, and my Golf 2007 GT breaks down just 2 days after a 15,000k interval service. I took it back and they are asking me for $1300 diagnostic fee because they said the engine 'is misfiring'! Well I have had the car for 3 years and it never had a problem. What shall I do guys?

    $1300 for a diagnostic fee?
Take it somewhere else to get it looked at, then get the original servicer to cover costs if they are found at fault.

Stuff breaks, its just by chance when it happens, its some times unlucky that it happens just after a service or while its actually been working on...**** happens some times..

But my engine was always working fine and it's hard to believe it's just 'bad timing', which is what the service manager said. If I pay the money to have it checked somewhere else I don't know how hard it will be to get the money back

    2007 Golf GT misfiring.

Ask them what they are inspecting. They probably know it needs pistons and don't want to do the work!

Exactly what i was going to say. If its the GT with the 1.4L twincharge petrol engine then you may have a problem on your hands.

Yep my Jetta 08 same engine replaced 3 times... 2 under warranty and once out of my pocket! I'll put money on it being piston no.4 because it wasn't getting enough oil and it's shat itself. Word of warning man... get rid of it... I know it will hurt... but won't hurt as much replacing the engine and you'll need a new gearbox if DSG... OMG the pain still lingers

Drop me a PM mate, can bring it to the workshop I control in Essendon. Would be a 1 hour diagnostic charge and then we can pursue payment through previous repairer if they are at fault.

However in saying that, it is unlikely they have done anything to cause a misfire during just a routine service. I base 15k service is just an oil change, so they wouldn't have touched anything air, fuel or spark related.
