G'day everyone,

I have just joined up so I can research the new Tiguan and get back into the world of VW. The wife and I bought an original Tiguan in 2009, it was a turbo diesel and was a fantastic car, we sold it in 2013 to get a manual to teach our sons to drive, our eldest son has just got his P's so he is getting our little corolla.

I am very keen to come back to the VW fold and am seriously considering a Tiguan highline in either Petrol or Diesel. I will make sure it has the Drivers Assistance Package but aren't too concerned about sunroof or the R-line package. My main issue with the R-line is the 20inch wheels which will be costly to replace. Plus my drive to work is on pretty ordinary roads so I figure 18 inch wheels will be more comfortable.

Happy to hear peoples thoughts on the new Tig and the benefits of petrol over diesel. I like the idea of the 162TSI as I can have a bit of fun every now and then but the diesel is attractive as well as I have a 45 min highway drive each way to work. The internet is a wonderful thing for researching but there is almost too much information out there.

My other option is the Mazda CX-5, its a good car but I don't think it will be as much fun to drive as the Tiguan.

Welcome back

The 20 inch look fantastic but as you say there is a trade off in ride see if you can take one with20,s for a test may not be as bad as you think
As for petrol vs diesel your trip is fine for burning crap out of the dpf so no issues there the diesel will give better fuel economy petrol more zing but more cost your choice!

The r-line pack looks real nice on the new tig as well imo

i have heard that there is quite a wait on the new tig's lot's of people want them

I drove a 162 tig with the 20 inch wheel's at the vw experience today at phillip island gp racetrack they handle real well for a bigish suv
they were all the r-line pack with the 20 inch wheels looked vry vry nice
For sure get the driver assistance pack its is great esp the adaptive cruise control i have it on my 7.5 and love it to bit's
If you can get them the digital driver's display and 9.5 inch discover pro are also a very worthwhile addition to your car i have them and they are great make the cab feel super premium and not to much extra cost really for a huge driving experience upgrade

Well done Steve for teaching your sons to drive a manual, unfortunately it's a dying option and too many kids just opt for an auto as its easier.

Thank you, one taught, only one more to go in 2 years. It only took a day of practice in a car park for him to get the hang of it. Now he loves driving around in the small manual compared to our large auto SUV.
