    Hello!

    Long time stalker.
Currently have an 2010 Focus xr5 looking to down size to a DSG/auto polo GTI in the next 3-4 months
Will be keeping a keen eye on the for sale section, while also trying to understand what on earth that blutooth thing is on the MY12.5+ gti!

    Hello!

Make sure you do your research on that engine and DSG gearbox (1.4L twincharge engine and 7speed DSG as fitted to the Polo GTI) as both are very well known to have big issues. If you can afford a Golf GTI instead it will be a much more reliable choice.

Thanks! I opened up another thread asking for common issues and someone just said not to do it and Jump onto a GOLF GTI if i can afford it....so i'm starting to see a trend here.

Do the 1.2litre TSI Polo's have the same issues with the DSG or is it just the pairing of 1.4L + DSG?

We're just trying to save you from a world of pain.

Much better to ask the questions before you buy than come on here after you have problems....

The earlier 7 speed DSG's in the Golf/Polo/Passat were problematic. If I were buying second-hand out of warranty then I'd seriously consider buying a manual. The 6 speed DSG in the diesel/GTI/R is a stronger gearbox and has less issues (not zero but a lot less).

You just don't want to buy a car that is going to cost half as much again just to keep it on the road if you an avoid it.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the advice! Exactly what i'm looking for.

My other options was a A1 TFSI which has the same engine as the polo so i'm going to assume same problems?

Might have to look at a lower model A3 or a 6 speed DSG Golf GTI

Reason for DSG is the wife can't drive manual, don't want two cars so selling my manual car and getting something fun we can both drive...

The other option is, stretch your budget, get a new Polo and save money in a long run by keeping your car for longer.
