It's normal it's the waste gate rod
Hi Guys,
I have a 2012 GTD DSG and am experiencing a rattling sound when I quickly depress the accelerator to around 2500rpm..kind of sounds like a loose pipe or badly fixed exhaust or muffler rattling against loose mount, but it's not.
It comes and goes and seems to be managable or inaudible if accelerate evenly.
The dealer says it's normal and that Transporters have the same noise. My question is why does it come and go?
Also, can anyone recommend a good independent mechanic in the Brisbane area that could look at it and provide a solution or reason for the problem??

I thought this only happened on the GTI?
Would the waste gate rod we loose?
Yes the waste gate rattle is a GTI thing,, yours is a common rail diesel and does get a few different noises especially from the high pressure pump, more of a "tinny" sound....

Why does it come and go?
Can it be fixed?
heat can effect a lot of noises and also theres so much going on these days under the bonnet that it could be a certain sensor or valve that you can hear operating at different times etc... hard if you have not heard the noise to diagnose it .. the high pressure fuel pump can be quite loud on the common rails but thats how they are... a kind of metallic clicking sound...
