    GOLF error message

Hi there. Just got a used 2015 Golf to go with my Caddy workhorse, and after a couple of days I am getting an error. Saying workshop! Leave vehicle in P.... or words to that effect. I have seen that this is not an uncommon error. Looking for info and tips/fixes etc. Car purchased at auction so no warranty.
    Cheers

    GOLF error message

Only real option is take it to someone who can scan the error code. Or get a ODB dongle and smartphone app.

I have a simple OBD scanner, no codes are coming up. Might need a more powerful scanner. The error shows on the car info page on infotainment unit and there is a warning light on the dash. Fair few on other sites particularly overseas with the same error. Some talk of a recall in the US.
It seems that replacing the shifter is the fix. You would think you could expect to get more than 4 years out of a shifter, so hoping that VW is coming to the party on this issue if it is common. Car drives fine for now.

I suggest you establish what the fault actually is before speculating & complaining about VW.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Thanks for your friendly and helpful contribution!!

The point of this post is to establish what the fault could be and arm myself with information prior to taking it in. It's called research and can save you a lot of time and money. (not to mention it's pretty much the point of these forums).

I don't believe I did complain about VW, however if you google my exact issue you will find hundreds of people who have. Many have had VW/VAG provide a "goodwill " contribution towards the repair and in some cases cover the entire cost when out of warranty. The reason I know this is from researching forums....go figure.

I am just trying to understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE taking it in to have the parts replaced

Could it be the same issue as here: New gear shift assembly

If so, looks like a new shifter mechanism was the fix.

Yeah I think it might be from what I've been able to research. Hopefully be able to get it in to the workshop next week for confirmation. Car drives fine and fault is intermittent, though currently there more often than not. Hopefully not too painful as other than that I love it.
