Rob here.
Driving a BRZ at the mo. Amazing light car (1200 kg's), telepathic steering, rails through corners. Don't use the brakes and you won't miss the power! But, the back seats suck and I want to take the odd third and fourth person along once in a while.
So, today we took a Scirocco DSG for a burn. Good grunt, good handling (really good for FWD I thought) and, even though I've been piloting manuals only since I started driving in 1978 (old fart alert) I was pretty impressed with the DSG. (Tina not cool with manuals but she's cool with lots of other stuff so the DSG gets the nod) I love the instant shifts and motor noises. I did feel flatfooted a couple of times when stepping on the loud pedal but I reckon I can learn this DSG brain and get it to do what I want, when I want, eventually. S mode is good and the paddles are always there if the computer hesitates.
I couldn't really feel a huge difference on the suspension, Comfort vs Normal vs Sport, but the ride was ok by me and it handled well I thought.
I bought a brand new 1984 black Scirocco back in the day with the close ratio 5 speed and 1.8 motor with 90 horsepower, LOL! I had lots of wide open throttle fun with that car, blasting through the back roads of the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. We are really spoiled by the grunt available nowadays. My BRZ is considered slow by some now, but it has more than twice the power my 84 Scirocco had!
Anyway, looking forward to blasting around in a Scirocco again.
Cheers all.
Rob.
