considering a mk5 GTI

Hi all, new to this forum (duh) and VW in general but not new to cars. Ive owned many and experience is varied but this will be the first sporty purchase ill make.
My first car was an AE86 twin cam corolla, loved that thing but i grew up and had to sell it.
Then i had random cars and 4wds, did the whole offroad thing and moved on to motorcycles, now im going back to cars.

Looked at one GTI, its an 07 and that makes it a MK 5 i believe? I will be booking in a few places for a test drive, but wanted to find out, before i go out, what are some of the things, apart from the obvious, to watch out for? I mean are there any "07 GTI bugs" i should know of?

Also, are there any major differences between the 06 and 07? ive seen a few of these around the same price range, but just want to know if one model has something the other doesnt.

There are definitely bugs with the Mk5 GTI. They're easily fixed as with most cars, but things arise after tuning and before. So far I've had the replace the following.

* Coil Packs (After Tuning, but prone to failure and were recalled)
* Spark Plugs (Fouled a plug before Tuned)
* Injectors (Injector Clogged up from Carbon Build Up and stopped working)
* CV Boots (Slight nick causing it to lose the fluid. Probably from track days or harsh road surface)
* PCV (failed after I bought the car)
* Diverter Valve (failed after Stage 1 Tune)
* DSG (entire Box due to previous owner but the Mechatronics fails in the DSG's if not serviced correctly)
* Battery (was dead after the DSG Box Replacement)

Even with these issues, it's been an absolute blast to modify and take car of my daily driving duties with the occasional track or drag day thrown in. I reckon it's a great car and very worthwhile for the price they're at now.

Been reading that the DSG box can sometimes play up, but im looking at manual transmissions only. Dont care how nice or fast DSG is, to me it simply cant compare to the feeling of manually changing real gears. Anyone have any feedback on the manual boxes on these? Havent seen many talk about them.
The other stuff doesnt sound too scary, but will be looking out for what i can see without pulling anything off.
