    Caddy 2011 Engine light on

HI, I have a 2011 April build caddy maxi life 2.0tdi with approx 280K kms on the clock and the engine light (orange) has been on for some time now. the mechanic i usually go to has advised if the car is running normally dont be too concerned. The car is running normally and fuel consumption is normal. Question is should i get this looked at and does it have anything to do with the DPF? i have seen youtube clips where if this is not attended to it can become a bigger issue. Second question would any recommend where i can get the DPF cleaned / serviced in Melb SE suburbs?

    Thanks guys, Kev

You need to find out why the engine light is on which could be for a multitude of reasons from minor to major. And if its something minor, leaving it untreated can turn it into something major. Best not to ignore it. Have a VW specialist mechanic scan the cars computer for faults and give you the error codes which will give you a pretty good idea of what is wrong.

If you want to do this process yourself, you can use a device such as Carista mated to an app on your smartphone to scan the car. Carista OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner – Android and iOS – AutoInstruct

As for your DPF, normally you will have a different engine light come up for the DPF (refer link below). Bear in mind that with 280,000kms your DPF is probably getting close to "end of life" as it will be getting full of ash which does not burn off. A VW specialist mechanic with the correct software can tell you how much ash is built up in your DPF and give you an idea of how much longer it will last before needing to be cleaned by a DPF specialist where they clean the DPF using chemicals and high pressure water. If you Google DPF cleaning Melbourne you will find a bunch of places that do the cleaning - bear in mind that it wont be cheap as there is labour involved in removing the DPF from the car, then the cleaning process, then labour to re-fit the DPF to the car. Anyone who claims it can be done cheaply without removing the DPF is only doing a band aid fix.

    Welcome to the forum.

I am local to you and can do a VCDS scan if you like; most likely, I won't be able to help with the fix but I can point you in the right direction.
