    Buying Advice VI 35 edition

    Hey guys.

Looking at buying my first Golf, The one im looking at is a VI 35 Edition

Took it for a test drive today and all felt pretty good.

I did notice at one stop First gear was hardish to select.

Does this model have a feature stopping first gear being selected if your still rolling ?

Does this sound like a syncro issue on the box or something ?

Its got 150k on the clock.

    Cheers

Ive owned a manual Mk6 Golf R and a manual Mk6 GTI and both cars were not keen on going into 1st gear unless you were stopped. So it's pretty normal. If you blip the throttle while trying to engage 1st gear it should go in more easily.

The Mk6 GTI ED35 is an all round good and reliable car, and because it has the "de-tuned" engine from the Golf R, it does not suffer the issues that the regular GTI does (different engine altogether).

With those km's on it, i would get one of various workshops in Melbourne to have a look over it prior to purchasing and once you purchase the car, probably a good idea to get some of the known wear items on the car replaced (ignition coil packs, hpfp cam follower, diverter valve). Someone like Dubaddiction, VTech Australia or Underground Performance who know VW Golf's inside out.

Is this the one? 2011 Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 35 VI Manual MY12-SSE-AD-4676772

If so - the odometer in the photos appears to show 91,xxxkm so if the car now has 150,000km it may not look in the same condition.

Yes mate, thats the one, And thank you for the great response, The condition on it is really quite close to the pics, couldn't see any real issues ( not that i really know what im looking for) Nice pickup on the pics being old tho.

Any tips on things to look out for ?

Ive just shot him a offer of 16k with rego and a roadworthy. Seems like a decent price ?

A lot can happen in 150,000kms. So i would advise to make sure the servicing is up to date (it probably should have been serviced 2 or perhaps even 3 times per year for a 5-6yr old car with those km's on it) and that the timing belt/water pump were changed somewhere around 105,000km which is the recommended service interval for those items.

Apart from that, just make sure paint colour/texture matches on all panels, it drives nice and straight without any noises such as worn wheel bearings, and that the wear and tear on the seat bolsters, floor mats and steering wheel/general interior is not too bad.

And obviously make sure that the engine pulls cleanly (no misfires, no slipping clutch etc) all through the rev range in say 3rd gear and that it pulls quite strongly as the ED35 is quite a powerful little thing.
