I am currently looking into buying my first VW/Skoda and am needing some feedback. Looking at a 2008 polo gti tomorrow hopefully and will be looking at others from there.

Around 2008 - Polo GTI lovely car. Have had two. One for over 100,000 miles. Only thing which failed was an earth braiding strap from engine to chassis. $15 fix.
Lower number of careful owners is the key.
