Cool Newbie 9N Gti owner!! ECU questions!! please help.

    Wassup yall

As my introductory post i suppose i should introduce myself a little.
I drive a white 2008 Polo GTi 9N with 120xxxkms on the car, which i bought at 105xxx and still drove like a dream. Like my car, i like to drive fast, and hoping to find a few other people around sydney like me. If there are ever any cruises or events on, count me in.

Now to my question. I was looking into ECU tuning options and everything i could find pointed me to APR tuning in sydney, however they seem to have closed operations around here. My closest tuning shop is VW Villiage and they use Revotechnik software. Has anyone got their stage 1 tune? Or heard anything of it? Should i expect similar gains to the bygone APR tune?

    Appreciate all help,
    brysonever

    Welcome brysonever,
I have the same year Polo Gti and got it in 2010 and just had the Timing Belt Adjuster Water Pump at 99000 klms. With good servicing these Polos will go for many many kilometers and are a strong little car.

Thanks to Jimmy Mc for his mechanical expertise in doing the job and thanks to Gav for getting me the parts to do it at a great price.

I suggest you take the advice Jimmy gave me and replace the gearbox oil with Redline. One of the easy and best upgrades. Wished I had done it first up.

Now back to you brysonever. Mine is Black Magic and she came from Sydney. The original owner had tuned it by George at VW Village and they yes they use Revotechnik software. It has a Revotechnik stage 2 custom, a bigger Dump pipe and Miltec Exhaust with custom muffler by Rob Bliss. That gives her 155 katw on dyno and as Jimmy attests it went very well. I was also lucky to get Eddys Subframe Moutn Kits which almost eliminates all torque steer, and with 155 katws there is a bit.

I have soundproofed the entire passenger floor and boot floors too.

And since then I have done the intake Cone in the Box' and installed a large front mount intercooler to keep things cooler in our Queensland summers. I got George at VW Village to do a retune afterwards and he did say it did not need much done. I brought a Revotechnik Hand Controller while I was down in Sydney again. I had it tuned for BP 98 and always use BP 98 ron. I have done 50,000 plus including a 7,500 k road trip to Dubbo, Melbourne, Tassie and return via Sydney and home. Fantastic tourer for a small wheelbase car. I was in fear of opening the mail for weeks after that trip.

I also replaced the Steering Rack bushes and all the control arms and the rear eye beams as well, with with Neoprene Poly. There is a APR Dogbone engine mount too. I just refitted the Ultra rear sway bar that I had for sale as the Polo likes it so much!

Well brysonever if your wise see George at VW Village or PM Gav on here as he does great tunes and is a real gentleman too!

I've had my Polo GTI for 7 years. My first mods were Seat lower control arm bushes from Jimmy Mac and a Custom Code stage 1 tune at 36,000k's. I've since had huge assistance from Gavin whenever I've needed it and he helped me arrange a down pipe and exhaust and did a stage 2 tune. I also put Redline in the gearbox. At nearly 170,000k's it still puts a smile on my face. I would recommend Gavin as the most informative and helpful guy around for any tuning, and particularly for Polo GTI's as he has one of his own.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

Gavin's cheapy but getting more expensive GTI ;)

Here's the low down on my own Polo.

I have a Phase 1 ECU in Sydney running in a mates car. Which you are welcome to try out before you make a choice. It just needs swapping with yours. There's no immobiliser so it will run straight away.

The guy that has it is a mechanic so could probably fit it for you.

As mentioned I have tuned lots of Polo's in the last 10 years. All stage 1 tunes make very similar power.

I would make sure that you plan backwards from the finished product to avoid doing tuning twice. ie Go straight to Stage 2 if that's what you plan to do eventually. The tune is pretty much the same money but going 1 to 2 has a fair cost, which could be put towards the downpipe.

My contact details are in my sig.

    Gavin
