2012 Polo Fuel issue?

Hi guys, forgive my complete lack of knowledge in this area but my 2012 Polo 77TSI has a part that has come away from wherever it is meant to connect to. Can anyone tell me what exactly it is and what side effects might be experienced by it being in it's current state? I'm getting a few issues at the moment that may or may not be related to what you see in the pics.

(Fuel gauge level disappears shortly after starting the car if it is less than half full, Smell of fuel when vehicle not moving eg. waiting at lights and it seems to miss fire or miss in higher gears when acceleration is applied eg. when you approach a hill it then stutters/splutters as it tries to accelerate to maintain speed).

Have a look around for a pipe under it that has become disconnected, would seem to be a starting point
