Hi everyone,
Just after some advice, my daughter was after a Camper Van and after much searching we found one, 2010 VW Transporter, T5 with the Twin Turbo 2.0L and 7Sp Auto, 4MOTION that had a Frontline Camper Conversion done about 8 years ago, 150,000km it was everything that she wanted
On her first trip the DPF light came on and it went into Limp mode then the Low Oil Pressure light came on and she check the Dipstick and found that the Oil Level was Low and she had to put about 1.5l of oil in it
Luckily she was close to Canberra and drove to the local VW Dealership for them to diagnose that the DPF was clogged and needed a forced Re-gen, we are still yet to find out
But from all of the research that I have done, it looks like a common problem with this motor, where due to the corrosion of the cooling fins in the EGR Cooler it leads to wear in the Cylinder Bores and high Oil consumption which I'm assuming contributes to the DPF clogging
So now we find ourselves in a dilemma, Sell the Camper Van or try and fix the motor, so my question is do we try and source a 2nd hand Motor and hope for the best or do we rebuild the existing motor?
If we rebuild the motor, what other work should we do?
I'm hoping that we could get away with just honing the Bores, new rings and recondition the Head
I understand that there is a fix to the EGR Cooler, a later model Pierburg one but can anyone tell me what Part Number I should be looking
Any information, recommendations would be very much appreciated
Thanks,
