Throttle body adaption reqd there, no base idle recognised. Changing the battery without keeping power to the ecu with an ecu saver will erase any learnt values

My 1998 Passat has been my pride and joy and I have never has a problem with the car. It is serviced every 10,000 without fail.
I recently had a new battery fitted ( yes it is the correct one).
The car will start and idle ok whilst auto choke is operating however as soon as you get to a corner or roundabout the car simply stalls.
Spoke to a mechanic who said take it for a long drive and it may reset the computers. No luck.
The question- is there anyone with sufficent computer equipment to be able diagnose the problem or do I need to take out a second mortgage and go the local VW dealer. I am based in south west Sydney near Liverpool however prepared to travel for the right person. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Throttle body adaptation would probably fix it up. You can do that with VCDS. www.ross-tech.com
There's plenty of folk have the cables or you can hunt down an independent specialist.
