Sorry guys for not responding sooner. To be honest with you, since there was no interest for some time, I just let it go.
Will definitely revisit the idea when our Tig arrives (it should be here by the end of month).

Gents there are some excellent egs of towball mounted spare tyre carriers on the Club Toureag forum, link below.
Spare Wheel Carrier - Club Touareg Forums

Posts #1, 11 and 43 show some good pics, two slightly diff designs, with posts 1 and 11 being the same, 43 a variation on that allows use of towball for trailers etc at same time.

There was also a Tig owner in the thread, I will see if I can reach him and see if he did anything.

I've also think I might have a good base for building one, will let you guys know if anything comes of it, bit more research etc to do yet and I am goign overseas in a few weeks, so might be early Sept before I get a chance to get back on that option. Anyway stuff above looks great if we could get somethign like that at a reasonable price.

    cheers

    Your welcome Big Tiguan

I have posted a query on that thread (Club touareg) will see if that gives us any leads. I have also PM'd the Tiguan owner on that same thread, but they have only ever posted once so I suspect wont here from them, but worth a try.

The Club Touareg designs do look good!

Bear in mind it was designed around a removable 2" square tongue and receptacle - useable for most aftermarket Tiguan towbar installations.

For the factory-fitted goose-neck towbar, no such luck.

Guys does anyone have info about removing the space saver tyre and fitting another full size wheel there? I have 19" and I want to work a solution inside my car.

It can be done, you will lose some boot space.

per Transporters, yeh but you will lose bootspace and not sure how you'd create a new boot floor that would sit well.

I've gone the other way and now just have a can of tyre weld (amongst other things) in the side storages and have taken the biscuit spare out altogether. Frees up heaps of boot space - adds about another 160 litres and the deeper boot has proven very handy already with a number of items fitting in that I would only have fitted in with the seats down previously.

So my strategy is, tyre weld as backup for local trips (probably easier for the Mrs who does most of them anyway) and a full size spare mounted on a towball carrier for the longer and 4wd trips. I have done this on the basis that I (touch wood) have never had a blow out in all my years of driving (in that situation the tyre weld would be useless) and I haven't used my spare in at least the last 8 years and doubt I have used a spare more than twice in my entire driving history. My dad used his spare just once in 300,000klm with his last car (a falcon). So sure there are times you will need it, but for most very few, I feel comfortable as long as I have a reasonable solution (the tyreweld) and a good sultion when further from home/risk increases (a towball mounted spare)

Thats my approach to risk, but each to his own and with 19's (lower profile tyres) you may encounter more tyre problems (as less give).

I should have a towball mounted solution which I can post on in Sept, that long as I will be away next 5 weeks.

    Transporter - Thank you!

Jim I am waiting with anticipation but would sensors and a rear view cam get in the way of a towball mounted solution?

Apologies for all the questions but I greatly appreciate the help
