    Windscreen Required

Hi all... Copped a small rock to the windscreen this morning on my way to work which resulted in a small star shaped crack, half the size of a 5c piece. Thought i will have to get that drilled/glued or whatever they do, before it gets worse, better keep an eye on it! By the time i jumped in to drive home, the crack had already grown from side to side, around 150 - 200mm from the top! Hope i took out the windscreen option with my insurance! Pretty sure i did?

Anyway, question is, what's involved in ensuring the rain sensing wiper function will still work with a new windscreen? I find this a great feature! Would it be required that the car goes into a dealership to have it sorted?

    Thanks

The glass place your insurer uses, will contact you asking for your VIN.

Take photos of your dash, bonnet, guards, etc prior. When I had mine done just before Christmas, they somehow trashed all the top of my dash, and left small shards of glass everywhere. Naturally, they opted for the "it was like that before" approach.

    Try a different approach.
Call the glass repairer you want to use and get them to case the insurance company for you.

Thanks for the tips guys. Just checked my policy documents & i have selected windscreen/window/sunroof repair with NO excess. Keep you posted on what the insurer says about the cost to me regarding rain sensor & night time rear-view mirror dimming electricals...

O'briens fitted a non genuine side window to my car around 5 years ago that leaked & were good enough to fit a genuine one without too much harassment from me, so can't really complain about their service. I just hope i get a tech that does it properly...

    Thanks for the tip, Ian.

Has anyone heard of this: ? (i haven't) The company looking after the claim called me today to ask if my car is fitted with acoustic glass? Said there would be a little symbol in one of the bottom corners of the windscreen that looked a bit like an ear! Repairer in Coffs is Novus, seem to have a few good reviews so fingers crossed...

    Hi Guys,

For what its worth I recently purchased a 2015 Tig that has had a windscreen replacement by the original owner due to a stone chip.
The replacement screen is non-genuine but the auto wipers/lights/dimming mirror work perfectly. Was fitted by O'briens, they did a good job. If it wasn't for the aftermarket branding on the bottom corner of the screen you would never know.

Job was carried out yesterday & apart from the roof lining damage , it looks like an ok job... Rain sensor works fine. Glass is non genuine (FuYao). If i was picky (am a bit) i would complain that the top of the new glass to extent of roof is 1mm on drivers side tapering to 4mm on passenger side... Kind of looks like it needs to filled with Sikaflex ?

Someone from the glass place is coming to inspect the damage to the roof lining tomorrow.

^^ Sorry for the off-topic question- how do you activate or operate the auto wipers?
