what does the off road technology give you

ive just brought a 09 tdi 4motion and ive been seeing that the off road technology was an option does this only give you the extra off road button to lock the system or does it envolve more then that ...

im also wondering what ride height is the tiguan standard at ive seen the new ones around and they look higher then mine ..

This is an area I am also interested in since I am a prospective buyer.
Also are there any differences between the 4 motion on the Touareg compared with the Tiguan?

I modifies the shift patterns in the gearbox and the ABS/ESP controller to brake slipping wheels at the right time. I think it also gives you hill decent control. The Tig is a mild off-roader. Not really something you should buy if you go off-road regularly.

I had the off-road package on my first Tig but it's no longer available here unfortunately. It makes a HUGE difference to playing off road, it modifies gear, throttle and brake responses so you really can't cause wheel spin etc (I always used it with ESP OFF incidentally) and gives you hill descent control etc etc. Best value option ever, particularly here where we get a bit of snow, I could just flick that on and the ESP off and drive !! If you have the option to have it it's well worth having !!

    Cheers

The off road button forced the Tig Halidex into 50:50 front rear split Normally it starts in 50:50 and the changes to 90:10 as speed increases in 2nd. And of course the software ABS descent and throttle controls mentioned above. Would be worth it if we got the track and field version here (better attack angle bumpers but uglier) - I think Derek had Track and Field on his Tig (delete "uglier" substitute "purposeful")
It also gives you the compass option in the MFD and the Tyre Pressure Warning Indicator (again software only) which puts another reset button on the console. $300 option.

Unfortunately off road function is no longer offered as an option on the Australian market Tiguan. However if you really keen and don't mind the looks Skoda Australia offers an offroad version of the Yeti that has recently undergone a facelift for the better. The Yeti shares the same floor pan and engines as the Tiguan/Q3. The 2015 103kw 6spd DSG diesel model comes with fairly decent specs and even works out cheaper than the similarly specced Tiguan.
