VW Tiguan 2015 excessive fuel usage

Greetings all
I have acquired a 2015 build Tiguan with 10000 clicks it appears to be using excessive fuel with 98 octane any thoughts on figures I should expect with city and highway cycles

What is exact car model - engine?
What is fuel usage you're seeing as excessive?

I had a 155TSI for a loaner and I was getting around 500km out of a tank with spirited driving. This is the 2.0 GTI engine.
I drove a 132TSI asthmamobile for a while and it was around 650km out of a tank as it spent so much time by me being flogged to get it to go anywhere.

Fuel usage is about 400km per tank. Highway and city cycle combined.
My wife is driving it so using 98 should that be better consumption ?

60litre tank and 400km = 15l/100km

We have a 155TSI and generally run around under 10l/100km in city and 8l/100km on the highway.

If you fang it 12l/100km.

What does your fuel econmoy say in the MFD? It's usually a reasonable guide.

You can get higher fuel consumption earlier on while things are still bedding in. Having said that by 10,000km you should be well run in.

Transporter is right. My 1.4L 118TSI can be anywhere between 6 and 15 L /100km depending on when/where/how I drive it. If I'm only driving to the train station and back it gets terrible terrible consumption, if I drive interstate I get great consumption.The best consumption for most vehicles is 80-90... diriving pretty much anywhere in an 80 zone, even spirited driving, is likely to get pretty good average figures.

When people say 'spirited driving' they don't usually mean accelerate quickly from zero to 60, stop, repeat. Something you can easily accomplish in suburbia driving to and from the lcoal shops <5km away. Hell you barely warm the car up doing that.

I guarantee that to and from the local shops is likely to use more fuel than a spirited jaunt down up and down the mountain. Usually the spirited parts are waaaaay offset by getting there and back. I've averaged lower figures after a track day thanks to the drive there and back than I have going to and from the trian station for a tank a fuel (which to be fair can take up to six weeks!).

Check out the instantaneous figures on the dash. Speeding up to 60 will see that read out at 49.9 the whole time, now check it out speeding up from 60 to 80, probably a lower number (unless you try **REALLY** hard).

Long story short, very short trips kill fuel economy thanks to stop/start driving.
